Check if You Can Become an Instructor

Before applying, make sure you meet the DVSA eligibility requirements:

Aged 21 or over
Held a full UK (or EU) driving licence for at least 3 years
No more than 6 penalty points
Able to pass a criminal record check

Apply to Become a Driving Instructor

Your first step is to register with the DVSA. Our team at Acorn can guide you through this application process, helping you complete the necessary forms and prepare for the first part of your training.

Take the Theory Test (ADI Part 1)

The first official stage is a multiple-choice theory test and hazard perception test, similar to a learner test but more in-depth.

You’ll learn about:

We provide full study material and mock exams to help you pass ADI Part 1 confidently.

Take the Driving Ability Test (ADI Part 2)
